Clay Balloon Dogs
So, you want to create your own pack of (balloon) dogs with your students? Look no further than this quick-print sculpture resource. Laminate, gather your tools and jump right on in. Basic instructions are noted right on each student’s coil guide. All they have to do is roll their coils to size, lay them out, scratch and slip to attach where indicated, and assemble the parts! Tips and tricks for balancing the drying parts are included. After they’re dry, add finishing touches with your choice of medium.
View and discuss images art by balloon artists such as Jeff Koons, Brett Kern, and Masayoshi Matsumoto to get kids excited about creating. You can extend this lesson by inflating and twisting actual balloon dogs together, creating balloon drawings or collages!
We used real kiln fire clay, but feel free to try it out with air dry clay, Crayola Model Magic, polymer clay, or other substrate of your choosing.
